Hotel Chocolat Slab Box

Happy New Year! Today’s project is a box to contain one of my favourite chocolates. These slabs from Hotel Chocolat don’t normally last very long in our house and I have to hide them from Tom or they would all be eaten. The bars are perfect for little presents, however after Christmas and Birthdays, in December the thought of wrapping presents scares me. So I decided to create a box to put the slab/block in. I have previously created a thin bag but thought it did not look right.

Handmade box to hold a Hotel Chocolat Slab using the Pattern Party DSP, Ribbon, Card and Bakers twine from Stampin' Up!

1st box using Flirty Flamingo Card and the Pattern Party DSP with a belly band using the Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon colour altered with Flirty Flamingo blends. 2nd box using Basic Black card and the Pattern Party DSP with a belly band using Basic Black Bakers Twine with a sentiment from the Wish for Everything stamp set.

Tips and Tricks

  • you can use any card for the base (please do not use DSP as it is not strong enough to hold a weight

  • for a snug fit ensure that the lid is slightly larger by adding a shim when scoring the lid (I use a piece of the same card

  • windmill the box by making each tab on a different side

  • if you are not confident with sticking the tabs down use wet glue as it gives you wiggle room

This is a super simple cute box, which is perfect to practice your box making skills. Pull out your card stash and give it ago. You don’t have to use the Hotel Chocolat slabs, I am sure it will fit lots of different items. What have you managed to fit in yours?

6 Cards from one piece of DSP

As I Have said before (I think, brain fog!) I can’t always spend as much time as I would like in my craft room, so I am always on the look out for simple card ideas which are fabulous. One thing that makes gorgeous cards is stunning paper. I am in love with the Peaceful Place Speciality DSP. There are a number of sheets which can be used to create gorgeous backgrounds and cards with the minimum of effort. Another bonus is that you can make 6 cards from one piece of 12x12 paper. First I cut the paper in to 3 strips of 10cm (4inches) to separate the trees. Then cut it down to height. I find it easier to cut it at 6 inches and then reduce it down to fit on the card blank.

You can stamp and punch a deer from the Peaceful Deer bundle, or you can stamp and colour directly on to the DSP. On the card below, I stamped the deer in Basic Gray (I find Basic Black is too dark) and then coloured the deer with the Crumb Cake blends. I added the sentiment directly to the card, if you are not confident stamping you can add the sentiment by stamping on scrap card and then cutting it out and adding it to the card.

You can look through your stash and see what else you could use, in the video my examples used the retired Moose. The baby deer is super cute, what is your favourite?

Host Pattern Party Overview

One of my favourite Designer Series Paper packs in the new catalogue is the Pattern Party DSP. Rather than finding it in the DSP section it is in the host rewards section of the catalogue as it is a paper which you can earn but can not buy directly.

I love the bright random patterns on one side and love love love the monochrome on the reverse. Also as it is 12x12 paper there and multiple ways this can be used, for scrapbooking, card making, home décor, or 3D items. The monochrome side is perfect for random colouring (eg with blending brushes Stampin’ Write markers or blends) to create different looking looks.

The DSP is a host reward called Pattern Party, which can only be ordered using Stampin’ Rewards.

What are Stampin’ Rewards? Stampin’ Rewards can only be earned by an order from a party or an individual that is £150+ (before postage). If your Stampin’ Up! party sales reach between £150 and £274.99, the hostess of the party / individual will receive 10% of that total to spend for free

The video below gives an overview of the paper and the colours it contains.

I am loving the options and versatility of this paper pack, I cant wait to get back in to the craft room and start playing.
